About the artist

My art career began in 1975 when I was introduced to porcelain painting. A few years later came watercolor, oil, pastel, batik and mixed media. Art is an integral part of my life. Without it, I would experience an enormous void. Each medium I work in has its own uniqueness and beauty. I find it most exciting to see form and design emerge on a canvas, paper, cloth as I work . . . as if the images emerge, not from my action, but alternatively as though they had already been in the blank canvas.
I have been in shows all over Northern Virginia for many years. Many of these shows have been judged, and I have been fortunate to have received special recognition on several occasions.  It was perhaps the most rewarding, however, to have received the People’s Choice Award knowing no one in the whole room.  Also, I find it an ultimate fulfillment to have someone select one of my paintings to purchase.
My studies have been varied.  I was starting on my own using books and imitating other artists for whom I have great admiration. I then began more formal training at classes taught at the Falls Church Community Center, West Palm Beach Art League, Alexandria Art League, Frenchman School of Art, Tequesta Art Center, Fairfax Adult Classes, Arlington Adult classes, and the Corcoran School of Art. I am still involved in taking classes, workshops, and any other endeavor that would teach new techniques.
My library consists of books, DVDs on every subject regarding the study of art. I am most humbled and thankful for this gift.
